Capacity Building to Enhance the Evaluation of Food Security Funding

The need:

Vancouver Coastal Health Community Investments administers funding to non-profit and First Nations partners to provide health promotion programming for equity-seeking populations. The Community Investments team required support to validate the evaluation tools they drafted to measure the impact of their funding on program participants.

What we did:

We completed a series of focus groups with participants of VCH-funded food security programs to test and refine the draft data collection tools designed to assess progress towards intended outcomes of funding. Catalyst provided the Community Investments team with actionable recommendations to improve the design of the tools, as well as their overall assessment strategy. Through this process, we also built the team’s capacity to better understand the difference their funding is making.

What our client had to say:

“Elayne was fantastic to work with, as she is knowledgeable, proactive, and flexible. She identified ways to shift the flow of the focus groups based on feedback from participants, and was very responsive to changes my team requested. We would work with her again in a heartbeat!”
